This winter has been unusually cold and snowy, at least compared to the trends of the past ten years. I’m not ashamed to admit my preference for winters that lean milder and drier, meaning not snowy. Snowy landscapes are scenic, beautiful, and often nostalgic. Snowy cityscapes can be those things, too, but only for a day. Beyond that brief, magical period, it becomes a frustrating mix of roads narrowed by snowbanks, briny slush, and sidewalks either left unshovelled or carpeted with salt.
Significant snowfalls limit where Lily and I can walk Porthos. We’re lucky enough to live a few steps from a reasonably large park, but going to the same place gets old. So we’ve been driving out to Woodbine Beach and, more recently, to Taylor Creek Park.
