Two friends and I arranged for a late-afternoon photo jaunt through the core of Toronto on Victoria Day. Since restrictions can breed creativity, I forced myself to use a single lens throughout the outing, my seldom-used Canon TS‑E 17mm f/4 L. It’s some or all of the following: niche, exotic, finicky, bulky, and restrictive. It’s often relegated to architectural and real estate photography where it confidently sits on sturdy tripods and geared tripod heads. However, it was Toronto’s first truly warm long weekend, and carrying a tripod wasn’t an appealing prospect, so I rode bareback: every image below was a handheld capture, which, importantly, was a simple affair thanks to the camera’s electronic level.
